The following is history and now medical advise:

Most people don’t know about the healing properties of medicinal plants and herbs for treating asthma and bronchitis two illnesses that plagued lower caste black and brown communities in 1970s New York City. The East however published half a dozen related articles on what I call food pharmacy or food as medicine between 1973 and 1979 in its paper Black News.

  •  Angelica is a great remedy for colds and coughs. It is excellent for breaking up excessive mucus in the bronchial tubes

  •  Aniseed heals asthma.

  • Balm is an herb that relieves persistent bronchitis.

  • Comfrey heals coughing bouts associated with asthma and bronchitis.

  • Euphorbia treats bronchitis, asthma, and other issues affecting the respiratory system that cause extreme coughing.

  • Horehound and wild thyme are good for helping painful coughing. Taken as a hot tea with honey, they dislodge the phlegm that makes breathing difficult.

  • Lungwort and pleurisy root reverse the causes of bronchitis and asthma symptoms such as shortness of breath.[i]
