Historically retail politics for candidates running for the White House, US House, and the Senate in swing states like Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Arizona on labor day attend allot of food events such as picnics and barbecues. Candidates must eat and deliver speeches at state and county fairs and fund raisers. When political party operatives invite a candidate or his or her surrogate and they don’t show, they loose the support of local political machines on election days which are key to wining elections.
