WEB Du Bois' History of Cooperatives
In 1907, WEB Du Bois served on the faculty of Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta Georgia. He received a grant from the Carnegie Foundation to research African-American cooperative businesses. The research covered the US south and delved into the question, how long has there been a consciousness effort among African Americans to create and operate cooperative businesses? Here is the first installment in a series based on Dubois findings. it’s part of our larger project entitled food rebels. What are food rebels, individuals and groups who started, led or belonged to initiatives, that created and maintained successful food systems, cooperatives, and food sovereignty for traditionally marginalized communities.
