What Do You Eat With Fried Chicken?
In 1960 the Baltimore Sun ran an article on the regional ways people served fried chicken. On the Gulf fried chicken with rice and kidney beans. In Harlem jazz artist made chicken and waffles popular. In Virginia they went a step further serving fried chicken with waffles and a cream based chicken gravy. Similarly in Kentucky people served up fried chicken with hot pancakes covered with a brown chicken gravy. Further south in Georgia fried chicken and grits, rice, or whipped sweet potatoes and down in Louisiana, fried chicken with a spicy tomato creole sauce. I have family from North Carolina and prefer fried chicken with collards and corn bread. How about you, where are you culinary roots and how do you prefer your fried chicken?
