Women Panthers Part 2

BPP women fought for the transformation or expulsion of toxic males within the party. They demanded to be treated as equals within BPP communal housing arrangements. They took turns sleeping in shifts on mattresses on the floor, cooking, and shared one pot meals such as stews, soups, and fried chicken, with other Panthers but they refused to be restricted to doing what men viewed as women’s work. BPP members had to work the free breakfast program rising at five in the morning, reporting to the breakfast site, cooking and serving breakfast— juice, cereal, eggs, and pancakes. When breakfast ended, they cleaned up and headed to their next party obligation.
