BPP Public Policy Programs

Another contribution to our series on Food Rebel History. In addition to the free breakfast for school children and the grocery giveaway program, other Black Panther Party (BPP) survival programs had been the police alert patrols, free medical clinics, free buses to prison to visit friends and family, free clothing and shoes program, free ambulance program, free sickle-cell testing program, seniors against fearful environments (SAFE) program, free escort for seniors program, and a free pest control program. And in Oakland an affordable community-controlled school program. The BPP organized the programs into four public policy areas: nutrition, healthcare, education, and the prison industrial complex.
