In the 1970s and 1980s, the central Brooklyn based organization called the East published a newspaper called Black News. The paper ran health-conscious stories and promoted plant-based meals, clean living free of tobacco and alcohol consumption. It also published articles on naturopathy. For example, one article recommended slippery elm as a remedy for an upset stomach. You can serve it as a porridge like chia pudding, oatmeal, millet, sorghum, or teff. It is also great for healing asthma and bronchitis.[i]
