CMA News From Montgomery, Alabama

The spring of 1931, the original 12 CMA stores in Montgomery, Alabama, increased their revenue from 40% to 60%. As one reporter phrased it, CMA “buying is done cooperatively, selling is intensive and rapid, advertising is cooperative.” The CMA had three goals: provide merchants with suggestions on best industry practices, study African American consumers, and work with local black farmers.
