I am continuing my reflections upon growing up with a dad who became a food rebel in the 1970s long before Tom Brady and LeBron James made eating clean popular. There’s a correlation between education and income and how you grow up eating. My parents were not college grads but they both read widely and stayed tuned to educational programs that featured progressive content on public radio and television stations. They listened to allot of Ossie Davis, Dick Gregory, Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali and other black folk talking about food, nutrition, human rights, and the environment. The content influenced my dad to become conscious about what he ate and where it came from. My dad had been ahead of his time and he had a profound influence on how I see the world today.
