Beginning in the late 1950s, Fultonia’s Health Food and Fasting Center was a local hub for health foods and natural remedies on Chicago’s south side. Chicagoans and notable figures from all over the country—politicians, musicians, activists, actors, and athletes alike came to the shop for herbs, alternative medicines, and the sagely wisdom of its proprietor, Dr. Alvenia Moody Fulton. A world-renowned nutritionist and naturopath. Dr. Fulton’s family made and sold apple cider vinegar from their16 acres of orchards in Pulaski, Tennessee. Her mother treated illnesses with apple cider vinegar. For example, some have found a fusion of eucalyptus and apple cider vinegar used with a vaporizer opens up bronchial passages constricted during colds and asthma attacks.
