This is a series of blog post focused on the life and work Dr. Alvenia Moody. She was a Black nutritionist and naturopath who made invaluable contributions to the twentieth century’s health and wellness movement. I am sharing from research I have done on her as part of a larger book project. Fulton grew up on a farm in Pulaski, Tennessee at the turn of the century. Her family made and sold apple cider vinegar from the16 acres of orchards it maintained and her mother used the vinegar as part of the natural remedies she used to treat her family’s ailments. In her book Vegetarianism—Fact or Fiction, Fulton describes apple cider vinegar as a digestive aid. Apple cider vinegar it great on cuts and scrapes because it kills bacteria and stops possible infections.
