What Shapes Your Decisions?

We continue our series on Food Rebels talking about the Central Brooklyn based movement the East. It had been a cultural and educational institution for lower caste (LC) people of African dissent. Raising a united consciousness of Black LC in central Brooklyn served as one of its top priorities. To that end the East used music and food in its communitywide consciousness raising programs attract people. Jitu Weusi one of the leading figures of the organization described its governing political and identity consciousness of members of the East. We are black members of the lower caste first and that reality shapes our decisions. Our work is to advance the interests of the lower caste, and we act to advance the needs of people who look like us, and nutrient rich food is one of those needs.
