The East Kitchen gave birth to the East Caterers, The Tamu Sweet East Bakery, and a food co-op. The East caterers started in April 1971 and operated out of a space at 8 Claver Place in Brooklyn, New York. It generated revenue offering catering services at dances, weddings, and private parties. It also provided catering services to black nationalist organizations throughout Brooklyn and other parts of New York City . East catering produced meals for the majority of independent schools in Brooklyn. Historian Kwasi Konuda calls East catering, the mobile unit of the East kitchen.
