Like Marcus Garvey’s failed black steamship line, Fannie Lou Hamer's Freedom Farm Cooperative (FFC) had too many incompetent administrators and staff members. The FFC’s Joseph Harris had been the cooperative’s only semi-competent farm manager; he unexpectantly died young accelerating the farms demise. Thereafter Hamer dependent on people whose advice she liked instead of experts. She needed people with the skills and experience to successfully manage FFC and her various antipoverty programs. People who knew how to create the necessary structures and systems to train FFC staff and members. Plus some employees stole from FFC.
