African American Entrepreneurs in Alabama
In July 12, 1913 In Macon and Tallapoosa County Alabama, the National Negro Business League’s Ralph W. Tyler toured four African American owned and operated profitable stores. Two of stores had $5,000 and $8,000 in merchandize respectively Taylor took particular note of African American families in both counties who insisted on spending their hard-earned money with black merchants, some traveling long distances in order to purchase their groceries and other necessities.
