In July 12, 1913 In Macon and Tallapoosa County Alabama, the National Negro Business League’s Ralph W. Tyler toured four African American owned and operated profitable stores.  Two of stores had $5,000 and $8,000 in merchandize respectively Taylor took particular note of African American families in both counties who insisted on spending their hard-earned money with black merchants, some traveling long distances in order to purchase their groceries and other necessities.
