I purchased a crockpot at a thrift shop years ago for about four dollars! Number of great meals that have come out of that slow cooker are too long to list. There are entire cookbooks on preparing meals using a crockpot. As for me I like to experiment. Recently I’ve been making homemade applesauce from a mix of various apples that a local grocery store discounted for cosmetic and taste reasons. Some Stevia, dried fruit such as raisins, dates, or figs, a little water, and aromatic spices like cinnamon, star anise, mace, and whatever works for you. The final result has been delicious eaten alone or used to cook other things. One of my favorite things to do is to make oatmeal (with regular or steel cut oats) using the applesauce instead of water, it’s great. I also like to make gluten-free scones adding the applesauce as a sweetener. Slow cookers a.k.a. crockpot, permit you put the ingredients in raw, set it on low, and go about your business. Before you know it your house starts smelling great and the food ready.
