Dr. Alvenia Moody Fulton (1893-1999) was a world-renowned nutritionist and naturopath from Pulaski in Giles County, Tennessee. Of note are the success of Pulaski’s black entrepreneurs like Dr. Fulton's family who owned farms and businesses. Although their caste standing restricted their earnings, they used skills passed down from one generation to the other, spent less than they earned, and did business with small circles of white customers who demanded and paid well for their products and services. The Fulton’s farm also depended on revenue from a larger group of trusted black customers who like them understood the importance of supporting black businesses.
