In 1958 Dr. Alvenia Fulton (1893 to 1999) started Fultonia Health and Fasting Institute on Chicago’s South Side. One of her mantras had been good health starts with regularly fasting to cleanse your colon. She found that after 20 years of supervising over 10,000 fasting diets that adding herbal teas to a controlled fast of “fresh juices and freshly made vegetable broths rich in minerals, vitamins, and enzymes” improves the impact of the fast on the body. She recommended Alfa mint tea with lemon and honey to someone in need of energy and also stated that tea is best taken after meals.
