Feeding the Children
During the Great Depression, the New York City Board of Child Welfare spent $13,304,324 in 1939 to provide care for children whose parents were unable to support them. The Board arranged for the feeding of 22,610 children during the same year. Half of these were in institutions such as public schools and after school programs and the other half in group homes. This eating while poor story in our series left me wondering how can we make sure children in need are not going to bed hungry? How about organizing a neighborhood canned food drive. What about creating list of websites that lets people know where and how they can donate time and money? A website that shares the contact information for public officials who have committee oversight of publicly funded related programs. What are your suggestions?
