Stumping and Eating In Maryland
This on going series focuses on identity politics, fund raising campaigns, and mobilizing people throughout modern US history. It focuses on understanding the cultural constructions of political identities and alliances. All politics are local and socially constructed. Candidate use food to establish connections with potential voters and thereby gain their support in the form of votes and or donations. For example, during a primary campaign in Maryland Democratic presidential candidate Bill Clinton attended a favorite Maryland pass time, a bull, oyster, and crab roast. He attended the event to connect with potential donors to his campaign and voters.
