Heard a great author interview on The Splendid Table, one of the three weekly food podcast that I download on my smart phone along with Good Food and the BBC Food Program.  Mike Shanahan has written a book on the history of the fig tree. The fig tree is fascinating to me because it is mentioned in all the major religious traditions of the world. For example, in the Christian faith, did you know there are 49 mentions of fig trees in old and New Testament scriptures?  One of my favorite is Matthew chapter 21 in which Jesus says, "Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the figtree...."
